The S R Nagar police today arrested the parents and four other members of a woman's family for allegedly attacking her husband in broad daylight in S R Nagar on Friday.
Two other suspects are absconding.
Talking to mediapersons on Sunday, West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police A R Srinivas said that the absconding accused would also be nabbed soon.
He also warned that the Telangana government would not tolerate rowdyism, and that the culprits would be dealt with with an iron hand.
The DCP said that the victim Sheikh Imtiaz Ali, the son of Rahmat Ali, a painter of Nalsabgadda in Maqdoom Nagar near Sanga Reddy, had been in love with Zainab Fatima, the daughter of Mohsin Ali of Borabanda, and had married her in a dargah in Sadashivpet on Eid-ul-Fitr day without the consent of her family.
The girl's parents told the police that Fatima had left her house on June 5 on the pretext of buying bangles and did not return. Upon a complaint from the girl's father, the S R Nagar police registered a missing persons case.
Meanwhile, the couple approached the Sangareddy police and sought protection from the girl's family members. After counselling the couple, the Sangareddy police informed the parents of both of them, and also the S R Nagar police.
A team of the S R Nagar police then went to Sangareddy and brought Fatima and handed her over to her parents. In a pre-meditated move, the girl's father then called Imtiaz Ali on the phone and told him to take away his wife. Suspecting Mohsin Ali's intentions, Imtiaz Ali refused. Mohsin Ali then again called the Imtiaz Ali on the phone from the police station and asked him to come to the police station and take the girl after giving a written assurance that the girl would be looked after well.
Believing Mohsin Ali's words, Imtiaz Ali, along with his parents, came to the police station in a car, and left for Sangareddy after giving the written assurance.
While the couple were returning home, the girl's parents Mohsin Ali and Zakira Begum, brothers Syed Farooq and Syed Ahmed, their relative Zaiba Fatima and two noted criminals Sohail and Rabbani followed the victim's car, waylaid them near the ICICI Bank branch in S R Nagar, and attacked Imtiaz Ali. When Imtiaz Ali tried to escape, the accused chased him and inflicted multiple injuries upon him with a knife. Zainab Fatima also lost her finger while trying to stop the accused from stabbing her husband.
The S R Nagar police rushed to the spot and shifted the newly-wed couple to a private hospital, and registered a case of attempt to murder and arrested Syed Farooq Ali, Syed Mohsin Ali, Syed Mohd Ali, Syed Ahmed Ali, Zakira Begum and Zaiba Fatima, and started a hunt for two other accused.
