Demanding that the TRS government immediately ban Kancha Ilaiah's book titled "Samajika Smugglerlu Komatollu", the Arya-Vysya Sangham today observed a bandh in Bhadrachalam town under the aegis of the Bhadradri Chamber of Commerce.
Business centres, petrol bunks and educational institutions remained closed due to the bandh.
Arya-Vysya Sangham members came onto the roads in huge numbers and organized a rally with motor vehicles and staged a rasta roko at the Godavari bridge. Later, they paid floral tributes at the Dr B R Ambedkar statue and the Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu statue.
Speaking on the occasion, the representatives of the Sangham demanded that the government ban the book which was clearly hurting the feelings of the Arya-Vysyas. They also asked the state government to initiate action to see that such incidents were not repeated in the future.
The Sangham representatives submitted memoranda to Bhadradri Kothagudem district Collector Rajiv Hanumanthu and Joint Collector Ram Kishan, Bhadrachalam RDO B Shivanarayana Reddy and Tahsildar P V Ramakrishna in this regard.
Leaders of the ruling TRS, TDP, BJP, Congress, CPI and other parties extended their support to the bandh observed by the Arya-Vysyas.
