An Army Jawan who was questioned by the Special Investigation Team in connection with the murder of the 11-year-old boy Syed Mustafa committed suicide.
According to Humayun Nagar police, the Army jawan, Appala Raju, 32, shot himself with his duty revolver in the Mehdipatnam Garrison in the early hours of Monday.
He was a native of Visakhapatnam, and is survived by his wife Anusuya and two children.
He was interrogated by the SIT of the Hyderabad City Police four days back in connection with Mustafa's murder that took place in the premises of the Garrison 47th Infantry Bn at Mehdipatnam on October 8.
Mustafa, a student of a madrasa and resident of Siddiq Nagar, in his dying declaration told a magistrate that he was set ablaze by some Army men.
On October 13, City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy had constituted a five-member SIT led by DCP Shahnawaz Qasim. The others members of the SIT were ACP Mohd. Ghouse Moinuddin and Inspectors L Raja Venkat Reddy, S Ravinder and Khaleel Basha.
Meanwhile, the Army authorities have denied the involvement of any military man in the incident.
"Upon investigation, it is found that this allegation is absolutely false, and no army personnel is involved in this incident. The Army condemns this act. All necessary assistance is being provided to the police authorities to carry out a detailed investigation to arrive at the truth," said a statement from the Army authorities. (INN)
