Bus commuters will have to dig deeper into their pockets to reach their destinations from July 16 onwards, as the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has announced an increase in fares.
APSRTC Managing Director Prasad Rao told media persons that while passengers buying daily tickets will have to pay more, student bus passes have not been touched. However, the rates of general bus passes have gone up by a whopping Rs. 50.
Prasad Rao, citing the recent hike in diesel prices as the reason for the fare hike, said that there will be no changes in the minimum fare of Pallevelugu, Express, Deluxe, Super Luxury and Garuda.
There has been an increase in fares upwards of 20km of travel in Pallevelugu buses. Pallevelugu fares have been increased from 46 paisa to 50 paisa after the initial 20km, meaning a 4 paisa increase per km.
Fares up to 10km in all types of city services remain unchanged, and there has been no change either in the fares of Sheethal A/C buses in the city.
The Express services' fares have been increased from 54 paisa to 62 paisa (8 paisa per km). Deluxe service fares have been increased from 60 paisa to 70 paisa (10 paisa per km). Super Luxury fares are up by 70 paisa to 82 paisa (12 paisa per km).
