The Andhra Pradesh government will reportedly spend Rs. 1,000 crores every year from now on the power sector with financial help from the Union's Energy Efficiency Services Limited.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is launching power projects and initiatives to achieve a vision of being amongst the top three States in the country in terms of power output by 2022, and a large part of the money above will go towards this.
Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary of the Energy, Infrastructure and Investments Department, who participated in the review meeting on the arrangements for the 70th Independence Day celebrations, said that the CM has decided to mention elaborately the proposed energy programs in his Independence Day speech on August 15.
Energy efficiency and conservation ranks high for the State, too. Naidu had issued clear instructions to the State's energy department to give special importance to energy efficiency and conservation projects, and to create awareness among the public regarding such projects being taken up by the government, Jain said.
The CM also directed officials to disseminate information on the tips to be followed by the consumers to save energy and reduce their electricity bills, and also to incorporate energy conservation into their everyday lives.
Jain also said that for the welfare of the farmers, old and obsolete pump-sets would be replaced with energy efficient agricultural pump-sets, which would reduce power consumption by 30% to 35%.
