TRS candidate Harish Rao has entered the record books by capturing the Siddipet assembly constituency with a margin of 95,858 votes.
Nephew of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, Harish Rao eclipsed the previous record margin of victory 68,681 votes held by former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy from the Pulivendula constituency.
Harish Rao had earlier won from the same constituency by a margin of 64,667 votes.
The margin of victory is seen as the icing on the cake for the TRS, which is poised to sweep the by-polls, and its electoral ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party, capturing the lone seat it had contested.
The margin of victory also led to the eruption of wild celebration in the TRS camp, with the Telangana Bhavan, the party headquarters in Hyderabad, reverberating with the sounds of drums and slogans.
The result also left Harish Rao's opponents from the Congress and Telugu Desam Party forfeiting their deposits.
Speaking to media persons after the results were announced, Harish Rao thanked the people for their support, and said that they have made their choice judiciously.
He said that he would continue to fight for a separate Telangana state under the leadership of KCR.
