Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan launched the one million tree plantation program of the Indian Red Cross Society, Andhra Pradesh unit, by planting a sapodilla plant in the Raj Bhavan lawns at a program held on Saturday, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi.
The Andhra Pradesh unit of the Red Cross has taken up an initiative to plant 10 lakh trees across the 13 districts in the state with the help of 13 lakh Junior Red Cross volunteers and Youth Red Cross volunteers in 3,000 schools and colleges.
The program has been taken up by the AP Red Cross to celebrate the 75th year of India's independence, and also to coincide with the Swachch Bharat 2.0 mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP) mission launched by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
The program will continue across all the 13 districts in the state till the end of January 2022.
