Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao today said that the greenery in Telangana had increased by 8%, and that no other State in the country has grown so much in greenery.
Erik Solheim, president of the Green Belt and Road Institute, on Wednesday tweeted, "Telengana has increased its tree cover with three percent. Wonderful effort by the State. These high quality seedlings are one of the reasons behind success. (sic)"
Responding to Solheim's tweet, Rao said that actually the greenery had increased by 8% in Telangana, which was the highest for any State in India.
He also said that Telangana was only the State in the country that had a nursery in every one of its 12,769 villages, multiple nurseries in all 142 municipalities, and altogether more than 16,000 nurseries.
"Actually it's 8% Erik. Highest for any state in India. Also we are the only state in the country that has a Nursery in every one of the 12,769 villages and multiple Nurseries in all 142 municipalities. All together more than 16,000 nurseries. Another important reason why Telangana's green cover increased significantly is the statutory support by introduction of Green Budgets as part of the Municipal Act and Panchayat Raj Act (sic)," KTR tweeted.
