In a tribute to Telangana's first Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on his birthday, the Green India Challenge today launched a special plantation drive, Vriksharchana.
Responding to the initiative, the Kadiyam nursery farmers organized a grand event in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, planting 1,000 saplings to commemorate the occasion.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Joginipally Santosh Kumar attended as the chief guest and actively participated in the plantation drive alongside the farmers.
He praised Paluri Nani, a dedicated nursery farmer from Kadiyam, for leading the initiative in honour of KCR, whom he described as a visionary leader, a true friend of farmers, and a champion of greenery.
Kumar lauded the farmers' "unwavering commitment to afforestation", calling it a heartfelt tribute to KCR's legacy.
"From the days of the Telangana movement, KCR has always emphasized unity and collective progress. Today's gathering and enthusiasm among farmers are a testament to that very spirit. I sincerely thank all the farmers for their love and respect toward KCR. Your dedication to planting trees and protecting the environment is truly commendable," he said.
He also spoke of the success of Haritha Haram, KCR's flagship afforestation initiative, which he said resulted in the planting of 280 crore saplings over a decade, increasing Telangana's green cover by 8.3%.
The farmers acknowledged that Telangana's afforestation program not only enhanced greenery but also boosted their livelihoods, as the government's purchase of saplings from their nurseries provided employment and economic growth.
