The Anti-Corruption Bureau made a series of raids on December 1/2, 2010, across Andhra Pradesh, and arrested many officials after catching them red-handed.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) made a series of raids on December 1/2, 2010, across the state.
1. Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths conducted a surprise check on the office of the Deputy Transport Commissioner, Vijayawada, on Wednesday and recovered a total amount of Rs. 63,770 from 15 private agents, 1 senior assistant and 1 AMVI. The agents could not satisfactorily account for the cash. The Attendance Register, Personal Cash Declaration Register and other relevant records were seized for further enquiry.
2. Vadrevu Mallaparaju, the Village Revenue Officer, Chakradwarabandham (V), Velugubanda, Rajanagaram (M), East Godavari district, was caught red-handed by ACB officials in the late hours of Wednesday at the Tahsildar Office, Rajanagaram, while accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from the complainant for showing official favour to process his application and to get the duplicate Title Deed issued to the complainant. Mallaparaju was arrested and will be produced before the Court for Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Vijayawada.
3. ACB sleuths conducted a surprise check at the Check Post of Commercial Taxes, Madnoor, Nizamabad district, on Thursday, and recovered Rs. 27,965 from 6 private persons working for the ACTO, Vikram Raju. The ACTO allowed these private agents to collect money from truck drivers who were transporting goods by evading taxes due to the government. The ACTO, junior inspectors and office sub-ordinates were found in the Check Post. The Attendance Register, Personal Cash Register etc. of the Commercial Tax Check Post at Madnoor were taken for further verification.
4. ACB sleuths on Thursday caught red-handed T Kanaka Raju, Panchayat Secretary, Madugula (V and M), Visakhapatnam District, at his office when he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 4,000 from the complainant for showing favour to process and issue cheque towards the pending monthly rental charges for the tractor of the complainant which was hired to remove garbage. Kanaka Raju was arrested and will be produced before the Court for Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Visakhapatnam.
5. Simultaneous searches were conducted by ACB Officials at the residence of Ekkati Rajit Reddy, Planning Officer, Kakatiya Urban Development Authority, (KUDA), Warangal, on Thursday, at Advocates' Colony, Balasamudram, Hanamakonda, and at the residences of his friends at Hanamakonda; Office of the KUDA, Hanamakonda; and his native place at Andukuthanda Village, Chityal Mandal, Warangal district.
The searches resulted in the unearthing of disproportionate assets worth about Rs. 75 lakh.
The assets include 9 house plots – 7 at Hanamkonda, Warangal district, and 2 at Ghatkesar, RR district; 2 houses – 1 at Warangal and 1 at Advocates' Colony, Hanamakonda; 6 acres 20 guntas of agricultural land at Warangal district and Anikal district of Karnataka; 878.95 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs. 8,13,340; 2kg 196gm of silver ornaments worth Rs. 47,500; fixed deposits worth Rs. 10,000; bank balance of Rs. 75,790; net cash of Rs. 6,000; and household articles worth Rs. 1,86,120. Ekkati Ajit Reddy was arrested.
6. Ponnana Chinababu, Office Superintendent, (Deputy Tahsildar), Burja (M), Srikakulam District, was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Thursday at his office when he demanded and accepting a bribe of Rs. 8,000 from the complainant for showing official favour of preparing No-Objection Certificate for registration of Zeroyti land purchased by the complainant. Ponnana Chinababu was arrested.
