The family of Vamsi Krishna, a person declared brain-dead, was brave enough to donate all the important organs of his body to a hospital in Vijayawada while the heart and the liver were rushed to a hospital in Hyderabad within two hours on Wednesday.
Krishna, a resident of Jaggayyapet in the Krishna district, working at the Mandava Engineering College, fell sick on Monday. He was being treated for high fever and severe headache at Andhra Hospital in Vijayawada. His condition worsened and slipped into coma and was later declared brain dead on Wednesday morning.
However, showing grit and resolve in the hour of grief, Krishna's parents - Venugopal Rao and Rajeswari - came forward to donate all the useable parts of their son's body through the Jeevan Dan Trust. While the donor's eyes were given to the Vasan Eye Hospital, his two kidneys were given to two different hospitals in Vijayawada. The heart and liver, being extremely delicate, have been sent to Hyderabad through a green channel from the hospital to the Gannavaram airport.
A green channel is arranged in this kind of situations to ensure the entire route is clear during the transit by stopping all other traffic.
After the organs arrived at Hyderabad via a special flight, the heart was sent to the Apollo Hospital and the liver was donated to the Yashoda Hospital.
