A massive fire accident took place in Vijayawada's Swarna Palace in the wee hours of Sunday.
The staff of fire safety department reached the spot and brought the flames under control.
Despite that, the accident claimed 10 lives.
Several others have also been seriously injured, and the number of the dead is likely to increase. The victims were shifted to other Covid hospitals quickly.
Officials have said that a short circuit was responsible for the accident.
A private hospital, Ramesh Hospital, had leased Hotel Swarna Palace to treat Covid-19 patients. A total of 50 persons were in the place when the accident took place.
Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhushnan Harichandan expressed shock over the accident. He issued orders to the officials concerned to ensure that the best treatment possible was extended to all the injured. He also conveyed his condolences to the family members of the victims.
Deputy Chief Minister Alla Nani and Adviser to the state government S Ramakrishna Reddy also expressed condolences over the accident. Nani said that the government would initiate stringent action those who were responsible for the incident.
