Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today celebrated the 130th birth anniversary of social reformer Dr B R Ambedkar by lauding the latter's work towards creating an equal India.
He garlanded a portrait of the reformer on the occasion.
The CM also published a tweet from his official Twitter account in honour of the famed reformer.
His tweet reads, "Babasaheb was a philosopher who paved the way for the development of Navabharata and a common man who worked to create a society based on equality for all. He also dedicated himself to giving our nation a great Constitution. On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, to him I pay my heartfelt tributes. #AmbedkarJayanti (sic)."
AP Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan also paid homage to Ambedkar at a program held at Durbar Hall in the Raj Bhavan.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, "Dr Ambedkar was a great son of India who fought for the rights of the Dalits and for the emancipation of the downtrodden sections of Indian society. Babasaheb was an economist, jurist, politician, and social reformer who fought relentlessly against social discrimination and raised his voice against the injustice, discrimination and inequality faced by the Dalit community. Called the "Father of the Indian Constitution", he was the chief architect responsible for drafting the document. He gave us a constitution that is seen as the best in the world for it guarantees freedom of speech, freedom of expression, equality before the law, and equal protection of law to all Indian citizens and enshrines ideas of equality and true freedom."
