The leaders of Telangana today paid rich tributes to social reformer Dr B R Ambedkar on the latter's 130th birth anniversary.
IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, along with ministers V Srinivas Goud and Koppula Eshwar, paid floral tributes to Ambedkar by garlanding a statue of the luminary at Tank Bund.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR said, "No Indian can ever forget the hard work that Babasaheb Ambedkar did to bring all the oppressed classes of our nation into mainstream society. Our government has not forgotten its promise of installing a 125 feet long statue of the leader in Hyderabad, and will soon do so. Further, we pay our respects to him by keeping alive his legacy of service to the oppressed and disadvantaged with our commitment to welfare, and will continue to do so."
Health Minister Etala Rajender, who also paid his respects to Ambedkar on the occasion, lauded the latter's fight against caste oppression.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao too participated in a function held to honour the famed anti-caste activist at the Siddipet Old Bus Stand Square.
At the function, he said that the CM of the state was deeply inspired by Ambedkar's ideas, and was working to turn them into actions by ensuring the welfare of the backward classes in the state. He added that hefty allocations were made for the purpose in the state Budget each year.
Another eminent leader, Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, was seen celebrating Ambedkar Jayanti as well.
He visited the statue of Ambedkar located on the Assembly premises and paid his tributes to the latter.
The Speaker was accompanied by Legislative Affairs Minister V Prashant Reddy, Legislative Council Whip M S Prabhakar Rao and some MLAs.
