The Commissioner of State Tax has informed the public that entertainment events to be conducted on the eve of New Year 2019 would attract tax under the provisions of the TGST Act, 2017.
Therefore, New Year event organizers needed to be registered under the TGST/CGST Acts as Casual Taxable Persons under Section 25(1) of the TGST/CGST Acts, and if they were not already registered under the Acts, were required to pay advance tax at 28% based on their estimated turnovers before the commencement of the events, he said.
Any non-compliance in this regard would be viewed seriously, he warned - apart from the GST due at 28%, if the non-complaince was deemed as wilful, a penalty equal to the tax would also be imposed on the violators.
For more information, the New Year event organizers should approach the concerned circle officials or call the toll-free number 1800-425-3787, or interact with the office of the Commissioner of State Tax, Nampally.
The Commissioner appealed to all event organizers and the people participating in the events to enjoy the New Year celebrations after paying the taxes due to the state government.
