Temples across Telangana wore a festive look on the occasion of New Year day today.
Devotees thronged temples from wee hours performing special prayers on the first day of the new year.
Several important temples, including those at Yadadri, Vemulawada, Komrelly, Bhadradri and Basara in Telangana were flocked by devotees from the early hours.
Devotees formed long queues at the famous Chilkur Balaji temple to pray and seek blessings. Due to the heavy rush, authorities made special arrangements with barricades and drinking water for the visitors. Restrictions were also imposed on circumambulations by devotees.
Dees also flocked to the famous temple of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at Yadagirigutta. It took four hours for devotees to get a free darshan, and special darshan took two hours.
The Warangal Bhadrakali temple also witnessed a huge number of devotees. People from the neighbouring districts also visited the temple to have a darshan of the presiding deity.
In Hyderabad, traffic came to a standstill for some time in the Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills areas with people thronging temples on New Year day. Devotees flocked the TTD and the Peddamma temples in Jubilee Hills, and the Puri Jagannath and the ISKCON temples in Banjara Hills. Heavy traffic jams were also seen on Road Nos 1, 36 and 45 in Jubilee Hills, and Road Nos 1, 2, 3 and 10 in Banjara Hills.
