MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi on Wednesday filed a bail petition in the Nirmal Court, in connection with the alleged hate speech case registered against him.
The petition was filed by Akbar's lawyers after the MIM leader was sent back to the Adilablad District Jail in the early hours of Wednesday from the Armed Reserves Headquarters, where he was kept for interrogation since the last four days.
Although his police custody was to end this evening, the police surrendered his day's custody, stating that they have completed the questioning.
After a medical test, Akbaruddin Owaisi was produced before the Nirmal magistrate at about 5am, and was later sent to judicial remand till January 22.
Meanwhile, the police also filed a petition in the court, seeking permission to send the MIM leader's voice to a lab for forensic analysis. Earlier, Akbaruddin Owaisi had
claimed that the voice in the CDs in which he was seen making hate speeches was doctored.
Meanwhile, the Patancheru police have intensified efforts to arrest him in a case registered in 2005, for allegedly abusing the then Medak Collector Singhal for taking up road-widening works. The Medak Police plans to bring Akbaruddin Owaisi to Sangareddy on a Prisoner Transit (PT) warrant. (INN)
