Ahead of the official trip planned today for all party MLAs and MLCs to the Medigadda barrage, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy once again appealed to former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao to join the tour.
The State Assembly session was adjourned abruptly after the Chief Minister made a comment on the official visit to Medigadda barrage.
Addressing the Assembly before that, Reddy said that the Congress government had called for tenders in 2008 for the construction of the Pranahita-Chevella project at an estimated cost of Rs 38,500 crore, and the project was later named after Dr B R Ambedkar on the suggestion of Congress leader Venkataswamy.
However, after the formation of Telangana State, the BRS government, in the name of a redesign, had increased the project estimate to Rs 1,47,000 crore. It finally constructed a poor quality project which led to the sinking of some piers of the Medigadda barrage, and the development of cracks in the Annaram and Sundilla barrages, he said.
The Chief Minister said that a vigilance team had conducted an investigation into the irregularities of the Kaleswaram project and submitted its full report to the government.
"It is the responsibility of every member of the legislature to know what happened at the Medigadda barrage. I am asking former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao to come to the Medigadda barrage. If he finds it difficult to come in a bus, even a helicopter can be made ready for him to reach the barrage," Reddy said.
He also said that irrigation minister Uttam Kumar Reddy would release a white paper on Wednesday or Thursday on the irrigation projects.
