YSR Congress Party honorary president Y Vijayamma, on Monday, announced that she would lead the party's by-elections campaign from 30 May.
Talking to media persons at Lotus Pond, after ending the hunger strike that she took up in protest against the
arrest of her son and Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy by the CBI, in connection with the disproportionate assets case, Vijayamma called upon voters in their respective constituencies to pass a sound verdict in the by-elections.
She sought people's support for YSR Congress candidates, "who sacrificed their posts supporting Jagan", in the 18 Assembly constituencies.
She appealed to people to "teach a lesson" to the government and the parties that "conspired" to send Jaganmohan Reddy to jail.
Vijayamma said that she would campaign from Macherla constituency in Guntur after paying homage to YSR at his grave at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district.
She accused the government, the Congress and the CBI of having conspired to send Jagan to jail and to hit the political prospects of the YSR Congress.
She expressed confidence that Jagan would come out clean from the allegations leveled by the CBI, and that he would bring back the golden rule of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in the state.
Vijayamma also thanked the Election Commission for allotting the symbol of the ceiling fan for her party's candidates in the elections.
Earlier, former Parkal MLA konda Surekha offerred lime juice to Vijayamma to withdraw her fast. Former Allagadda MLA Shobha Nagireddy gave Bharathi and Sharmila lime juice, coaxing them to end their hunger strike. (INN)
