The CBI court at Nampally, on Tuesday, adjourned the hearing on the bail petition of YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy, who was
arrested by the CBI in connection with disproportionate assets case, to 31 May.
In the bail petition, Jagan stated that he needs to campaign for the ensuing by-elections as the YSR Congress Party president, and requested that the court grant him bail. He also stated that his arrest was illegal.
After hearing the arguments of Jagan's counsel, the CBI court directed the CBI to file a counter-petition in this regard, and posted the petition for the next hearing to 31 May.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High Court, on Tuesday, permitted Jagan to file a quash petition against the CBI, claiming his arrest in the disproportionate assets case as "improper".
Following the High Court's permission, Jagan's counsel will file a quash petition on Wednesday, terming the arrest by the CBI as "illegal" and "improper", coming as it did at the time of the by-elections.
Jagan's counsel also took serious objection over the CBI court remanding Jagan to judicial custody for 14 days under Cr PC Section 309.
Meanwhile, the CBI moved a petition in the High Court, seeking custody of Jaganmohan Reddy. After hearing the CBI's preliminary arguments, the court permitted the CBI to file a petition in this regard on Wednesday.
Earlier, the CBI court rejected the CBI's petition, which sought Jagan's custody for further questioning.
Meanwhile, Jagan's family members, including his mother Y Vijayamma and wife Bharathi, met him at Chanchalguda Jail on Tuesday morning. (INN)
