The accused in the gruesome Deekshith Reddy murder case Manda Sagar today tried to commit suicide in his prison cell in Warangal Central Jail, by putting his fingers in a fuse box.
However, the jail staff thwarted his attempt, and rushed him to the MGM Government Hospital.
Though he had fallen unconscious after his attempt, the doctors at the hospital declared that Sagar was now out of danger.
Meanwhile, a case was registered against him at the Matwada police station for attempting suicide.
For the uninitiated, Sagar had kidnapped nine-year-old Kusuma Deekshith Reddy from Mahabubabad on October 18, hoping that he would be able to extort money from the boy's parents. However, after kidnapping the boy, Sagar panicked and strangulated him within two hours to avoid getting caught by the police.
In a bid to destroy all evidence of the act, he then burnt the child's body, and dumped it on a hillock in Annaram village in Kesamudram mandal, about 4 km from Mahabubabad.
Despite this, he continued to demand a ransom from Reddy's parents till October 21, making them believe that the child was still alive.
The Warangal police tracked him down and arrested him after the boy's body was recovered, on October 22.
