Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Shivadhar Reddy today released Police Annual Report 2025 at a press conference, and said that law and order in the State remained firmly under control in 2025, with the overall crime rate declining by 2.33% compared to 2024, even as road accidents increased by 5.6%.

The DGP said that the State recorded 2,28,269 cases this year, down from 2,34,158 in 2024. Cases registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) also fell by 1.45%, from 1,69,477 last year to 1,67,018 in 2025.

As per the report, the conviction rate showed a notable improvement, rising by 3.09 percentage points to 38.72% in 2025 compared to 35.63% in 2024. Courts awarded death sentences in four cases, while 320 accused were sentenced to life imprisonment in 216 cases during the year.

Comparing 2025 with 2024, the DGP said several serious crimes showed a decline: murders fell by 8.76%, rape cases by 13.45%, murders for gain by 15.66%, robbery cases by 27.17% and theft cases by 9.1%.

However, dacoity cases increased by 24.14%, while breach of trust cases rose by 23%. He said that the police were closely monitoring these.

Presenting a five-year comparative statement on crimes against women, Reddy said that mixed trends were observed in 2025 compared to 2024. While there was no change in dowry murders, dowry deaths increased by 0.79%. Dowry harassment cases declined by 2.01%, rape cases fell by 13.45%, and cases of kidnapping and abduction reduced by 10.61%. However, murders of women increased by 2.90%.

Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, courts awarded life imprisonment to 154 accused in 141 cases and death sentences in three cases. In cases registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 53 accused were awarded life imprisonment in 28 cases.

The DGP expressed concern over road safety, and said that road accidents increased by 5.6% in 2025 compared to the previous year. He added that intensified enforcement and awareness programs would be strengthened to address the issue.

During the year, 509 Maoists surrendered, including 23 from Telangana, reflecting sustained anti-Maoist operations and rehabilitation efforts, the DGP said.

Cyber crime cases in the State declined by 3%, even as such offences rose sharply at the national level. Telangana emerged as a national leader in mobile phone recovery, with police tracing an average of 111 phones per day. Cyber crime recoveries rose by 23%, with Rs 246 crore recovered, and Rs 159.65 crore was refunded to 24,498 victims.

Reddy also said that the Telangana police managed several high-profile and large-scale events during the year, including village panchayat elections, the Miss World contest, an international program involving footballer Lionel Messi, and flood situations in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts, without any loss of life.

He also spoke about the increasing representation of women officers in key leadership roles. He said that the State police won 18 medals at the 68th All India Police Duty Meet in Jharkhand and 10 medals at the World Police and Fire Games.

The DGP concluded by saying that the annual report reflected sustained efforts to strengthen policing, improve conviction rates and maintain public safety across Telangana.
