Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Saturday raided the house of former Vizianagaram surveyor Gedela Lakshmi Ganeswara Rao and found that the ex-officer owned 20 houses in Visakhapatnam alone.
ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police Rama Devi disclosed to the media that the former town surveyor owned five flats in the posh area of Seethammadhara, six flats in Srinagar Colony, and 25 acres of agricultural land in Kommadi of West Godavari district.
The ACB officers also found that the ex-surveyor had illegal assets in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and East and West Godavari districts, too, the Rama Devi said.
It may be mentioned here that in 2009, following allegations that Rao was indulging in corrupt practices and had amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income, he was arrested and removed from service.
During the 2009 raids, the ACB officials had found that his illegal assets exceeded Rs 1 crore.
Interestingly, the ex-surveyor, in a frantic effort to save himself from the ACB when they entered his house, locked himself and let his dogs loose on the officials.
However, the officials called local police, and entered the house by breaking open the main door.
