With the exception of Khanapur MLA Suman Rathod, whose election has been legally challenged on the grounds that she does not belong to the SC community, 293 of the 295 MLAs cast their votes in the MLC elections on Thursday. The voting process had ended half an hour before the scheduled time.
Of these 295, the Pulivendula seat in Kadapa district is vacant following the resignation of Y S Vijayalakshmi.
According to sources, 3 votes have been rejected so far.
12 candidates, 5 belonging to the Congress, 3 from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and 1 each from PRP, MIM, TRS and CPI, are in the fray for the 10 seats. While the Congress supports the PRP and MIM candidates, the TDP is supporting the CPI nominee.
