The Election Commission today announced the schedule for elections for MLC seats under the local bodies' quota for the two Telugu states.
The elections will be conducted for 12 seats in Telangana and 11 seats in Andhra Pradesh.
The 12 seats in Telangana comprise two seats each in the Mahabub Nagar, Karim Nagar and Ranga Reddy districts, and one seat each in the Nalgonda, Medak, Warangal, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Khammam districts.
The elections will be conducted on December 10, and the counting and declaration of results will be on December 14. The notification for the elections will be issued on November 16, nominations will be received until November 23, the officials concerned will scrutinize the nominations on November 24, and nominations can be withdrawn until November 26.
CEO Shashank Goel said that given that the schedule was announced, the model code of conduct came into effect immediately, and that public meetings with more than 500 people would not be allowed.
He said that with this no public meeting including the TRS' proposed Vijaya Garjana in Warangal on November 29 would not be allowed.
As a result, the TRS leaders said that the Vijaya Garjana meeting was cancelled, according to reports.
