M T Krishna Babu says said that the GHMC has constructed 56,000 houses under the JNNURM housing scheme.
GHMC Commissioner M T Krishna Babu, on Monday, said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has constructed 56,000 houses under the JNNURM housing scheme.
Addressing the media after a Prajavani session, and responding to queries regarding the delay in the completion of the JNNRUM scheme, the Commissioner said that the problem lies in identifying the beneficiaries, who are not willing to pay the beneficiary contribution. He said that he would be holding a meeting with the Collectors of Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts in this regard.
Speaking about JNNURM, the Commissioner said that GHMC is constructing two types of housing colonies - in situ (wherever a colony already exists) housing, with a 1+3 facility; and at vacant lands identified by the Collector concerned.
The Commissioner said that GHMC has constructed 56,000 houses under JNNURM, excluding 23,000 houses under Rajiv Gruha Kalpa.
"GHMC is facing financial problems because of non-payment of 30% of the beneficiary contribution, houses were built with GHMC funds," he said, "We will sort out this issue with the Collector concerned very soon," he added.
Responding to a query regarding Unni Kota Housing Colony, the Commissioner said that the beneficiaries of Unni Kota colony have come forward for the payment of beneficiary contribution, and that the contractors are reluctant to complete the construction process, saying that rates have been increased drastically.
"The remaining work, which is in its final stages, will be given to some other contractors, by duly cancelling the earlier contract. The difference of the cost will be deducted from the earlier contractor," he said.
Krishna Babu said that road repair works of the R&B and National Highways departments have been increased for the past 3-4 days, and that the GHMC could complete 60% of identified road repair works.
He further said that the subject of comprehensive road design is a bigger issue, and that the GHMC is concentrating on maintaining the same standard of roads and improving them further.
The Commissioner said that the GHMC is also taking up drainage improvement works at 153 stagnation points identified by the traffic police.
"As per regular practice, storm water drains must be constructed beneath, before a road is laid, but this is not happening," he said.
The Commissioner said that the GHMC is ready to take up comprehensive road improvement works with its own funds if HMWS&SB officials submit their estimates in this regard. (INN)
