As many as 32 MLAs of the Telugu Desam Party, hailing from the Telangana region, on Wednesday submitted their resignations afresh, demanding statehood for the region.
Earlier, members of the TDP Telangana Forum met at the TDP Legislature Party office in the Assembly, to discuss the strategy.
After about 7 hours of deliberations, the members concluded that all MLAs from the region must resign en masse for the cause of Telangana. They also consulted party president N Chandrababu Naidu over the issue and informed him about their decision.
The TDP MLAs then submitted their resignation letters to the Assembly Secretary Raja Sadaram, as the Speaker Nadendla Manohar was out of station.
Later, talking to reporters, T-TDP Forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that their resignations would ultimately lead to by-polls. He added that there would have been a major constitutional crisis in the state if the Congress MLAs from Telangana region, too, had resigned from their posts.
He said that TDP leaders are ready to sacrifice everything for the cause of Telangana, and that they will intensify their agitation.
Kamareddy MLA Gampa Goverdhan abstained from the meet, confirming reports that he would be joining the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. (INN)
