Secretary of the Telangana Board Of Intermediate Education A Ashok on Sunday refuted reports that the board was protecting the interests of corporate colleges in the state.
Stating that the reports are baseless, Ashok said that stern action would be taken against any corporate colleges that failed to follow instructions.
"Around 35 colleges in Ranga Reddy, 51 in Medchal and 60 in Hyderabad belonging to the Sri Chaitanya group were raided in the past 10 days. They were found violating many rules, including not following the academic calendar, conducting classes on Sundays and public holidays, extending timings, not appointing counsellors and not focusing on physical activity among others," Ashok said. There were a series of violations by the colleges, and the board had served show-cause notices to them and would scrap their affiliations if required, he added.
"We have asked the college managements to submit their replies within a fortnight," he said.
He also said that the BIE had also warned the managements of colleges that had students committing suicides, to mend their ways.
"We held discussions with the managements of colleges on this issue and instructed them not to pressurize the students," he said.
Ashok said that a call centre would be set up soon to receive complaints against colleges conducting Intermediate classes.
A committee would be set up soon to recommend changes in the Board of Intermediate Education, too, he added.
