The Telangana government today directed the junior colleges of the state to abstain from conducting classes during the summer vacation, and from starting admissions till May 21.
Board of Intermediate Education secretary Ashok warned junior colleges - read private, "corporate" colleges - of dire consequences if they failed to follow the norms.
The BIE had already cracked the whip on 396 colleges for conducting classes during summer so far, he said.
Ashok also appealed to parents to be wary of colleges which are not genuine, and to ensure that their wards joined only recognized colleges.
Colleges operating hostels needed to take special permissions in advance, he also said.
The board was taking stringent action against colleges that erred on any rules, he said.
