BJP national Vice President D K Aruna today flayed the Telangana government for deciding to conduct the state Assembly's Budget session over a ten-day period, and claimed that that was not enough time to discuss the many problems plaguing the state in any detail.
In a statement on the matter, she demanded that the government increase the number of working days of the Assembly to 30 days to ensure that the issues being faced by the people of the state could be discussed thoroughly.
"The TRS government has intentionally scheduled a short Budget session to prevent the Opposition from discussing the issues of the people in a thorough fashion. It has allocated just nine days for discussion to avoid facing difficult question. We urge it to increase the number of days for the same to 30," Aruna said.
Lambasting the ruling party further, she added, "The sessions of the Assembly are held as per the convenience of the TRS regime. They are held to push only the government's agenda. The session this year too will be used to pass the Bills favoured by the TRS. It is clear from all this that the government is holding the Budget session only to fulfil a constitutional obligation, not to hold meaningful discussions that will help shape sound policy decisions."
Though the Budget session in the state legislature began only yesterday, the TRS government has already attracted severe censure from various quarters regarding the same - senior Congress leader and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir even
condemned Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan's opening Budget address as being "factually incorrect", and assailed the ruling party for "misrepresenting" the state's economic condition through the speech. He advised the government to stop making "fake claims" on the state's economy.
