Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today announced that the State government would extend full support to the bereaved family of CCS constable Pramod Kumar, who was stabbed to death while escorting rowdy-sheeter Sheikh Riyaz to a police station in Nizamabad on October 17.
Paying tributes to police martyrs on Police Commemoration Day at the Police Martyrs Memorial in the city, the Chief Minister said that the family would receive Rs 1 crore ex-gratia, the last paid salary of the martyred constable until when he would have retired, a government job, and a 300-yard house plot for one of the family members.
He added that Rs 16 lakh ex-gratia from the Police Security Welfare and Rs 8 lakh ex-gratia from the Police Welfare funds would also be given to Pramod's family.
He said that the State government had previously allotted 200-yard housing plots each at Gajularamaram to 33 policemen who had lost their lives fighting Maoists in Odisha in June 2008.
"The Telangana police have built trust among and given assurance to society. Our police have never compromised and taken great risks to protect their people. It is the duty of all citizens to remember the police martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the State and the country," he said.
Riyaz, a history sheeter with 61 criminal cases against him including for attempted murder and actual murder, had stabbed Pramod multiple times and fled when he was being arrested on October 18 for automobile theft. He was captured again two days later, and had even then stabbed a local welder Asif who tried to help the police capture him, resulting in serious injuries to Asif on his hand from which he will reportedly take a year to fully recover according to the police, The Times of India reported.
