The police have claimed to have solved the case related to the murder of Nalgonda Municipal Chairperson Boddupalli Lakshmi's husband Boddupalli Srinivas.
The police produced eight men including the primary accused Chintakuntla Rambabu as involved in the murder, and said that all of them were friends of the deceased and that the murder was not political in nature.
They reported that the murder took place due to an altercation between the deceased and the accused at a mirchi bandi (snack stall).
Clarifying that there were no political overtones to the murder, Nalgonda SP Srinivasa Rao said that on the day of the incident, the local police had broken up a quarrel between the deceased and the accused at the mirchi bandi, but that the two parties had regrouped at the spot after the police had left, with the murder taking place when Srinivas had reproached the culprits out of anger.
The culprits were reportedly under the impression that the deceased was neglecting them and not extending any help to them despite their being friends.
Rao said that the police had filed cases against 11 persons in this regard, of whom three were still at large.
The SP said that besides Rambabu, the arrested in the case were identified as Mandra Mallesh, Avula Sharathraju, Bashapaka Durgaiah, Kalyan Samrat alias Chakri, Ramunuri Satish, Merugu Gopi and Mathangi Mohan. Mandra Mahesh, Mittapalli Sai and Prasad were still absconding, he said.
Addressing the lack of protection given to the deceased, the SP said that since nine cases had been filed against Boddupalli Srinivas, the police couldn't provide gunmen to him as per the rules. He added that Srinivas' wife B Lakshmi had not asked for security, either, and that so far all investigation had been carried out based on the call details.
