Pink Ribbon Walk Organised
Pink Ribbon Walk-2010 was organised in Hyderabad to create awareness about breast cancer.

Stressing on the importance of creating awareness about breast cancer among women, Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee Akkineni Nageswara Rao and City Police Commissioner A K Khan flagged off a 'Pink Ribbon Walk-2010' from KBR park to Jubilee Hills check post in the city on Sunday.
Launching the Pink Ribbon Walk at KBR park, being organized by Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBF) in association with US Consulate General, Nageswara Rao called upon medical fraternity to create awareness about breast cancer and the preventive measures to be taken by women.
Rao also appealed to women to go for regular checkups to identify the disease in its early stages.
UBF Chief Executive Officer P Raghu Ram stressed on the importance of detecting the disease in its early stages and said that if women suspected any change in their breasts, they should consult a physician immediately.
The detection of breast cancer in its initial stage will ensure better chances of containing its spread.
Dr. Raghu Ram said that the objective behind the walk was to honour women who had fought the illness with determination and it would also help in creating awareness about the risk of breast cancer.
As a part of the awareness campaign, various programs including free mammograms screening tests would be conducted at KIMS Hospital during the month of October, which is being considered as International Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Consul General Katherine Dhanani called on voluntary bodies to encourage women to breast feed their babies to reduce the risk of disease in pre-menopausal woman.
Dhanani said that people should work towards creating awareness about breast cancer and early detection, irrespective of nationality.
City Police Commissioner A K Khan and aerobics trainer Dinaz were also present. About 1000 people from various walks of life, particularly a large number of women, participated in the walk.
As a part of the campaign, 'Paint the City Pink' is being organized and prominent buildings including US Consul General building, Charminar, KIMS, Buddha statue on the Hussain Sagar lake, and many hoardings across the city will be lit pink to express solidarity at creating breast cancer awareness in the city.
