Popular film actor Nandamuri Balakrishna said, on Saturday, that the Indo-American Cancer Institute & Research Centre (IACI & RC) had become a haven for people afflicted by the dreaded disease.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the IACI&RC, Balakrishna said that the Centre was the only super-speciality centre for oncology in the city.
The actor also inaugurated the Cytogenetics Test facility, a bus service from Secunderabad railway station to Indo American Cancer Institute and a separate billing facility for Arogyasri patients.
The actor, who is also the chairman of the Centre, said that the separate billing facility for Arogyasri patients treated here would help in providing better service to the patients. He said that with this new facility, the approval time for Arogyasri patients would be reduced and their bills could be sent to clearance in a faster manner. Balakrishna added that this would help patients obtain quality treatment without procedural delay in getting approvals.
According to Centre authorities, all types of blood cancer such leukaemia and lymphomas are characterised by specific genetic abnormalities in the bone marrow. These genetic abnormalities are the key to the diagnosis of different types of malignancies for prognostication treatment, and follow-up cancer cytogenetic services were so far being outsourced.
