Telugu Desam Farmers' Cell president V Hanumantharaya Chowdhary alleged, on Saturday, that the former chief minister, the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, has increased the farmers' problems as most of the schemes - including 'Jalayagnam' and 'Meghamadanam' (artificial rainfall using chemicals) - launched during his tenure were involved in corruption and scams.
Talking to media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan, Chowdhary criticized the state government for adopting anti-farmer policies by not supplying adequate quantities of fertilizers to them.
Chowdhary alleged that the government had failed to supply the required amount of fertilizers and seeds to the farmers despite the Kharif season having already started.
Chowdhary also criticized Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy for not initiating action against Kadapa Mayor P Ravindranath Reddy, against whom a
case had been registered for illegal transport of fertilizers.
The TDP leader pointed out that the incident could not have taken place without the cooperation, either under duress or willing, of the officials.
The leader also suspected the involvement of senior Congress leaders in the illegal transport of fertilizers.
Chowdhary demanded that the government seize the fertilizer unit and order a judicial probe into the entire issue.
