Communist Party of India state secretary K Narayana, on Sunday, criticized the state government for showing undue favours against Kadapa Mayor P Ravindranath Reddy, who is allegedly
involved in the illegal transportation of fertilizers.
Narayana flayed the Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy for making 'irresponsible' statements, and accused him of failure in initiating action against the Kadapa Mayor, who was booked for transporting fertilizers illegally at a time when the its need was being acutely felt across the state.
"Though the government is aware that the Kadapa Mayor is involved in irregularities in the supply of fertilizers, it is displaying special treatment towards him, and has failed to initiate action against him," Narayana charged.
Narayana told media persons that the government's apathy in releasing fertilizers to farmers despite the state receiving good monsoon this year is increasing farmers' hardships.
The CPI leader said that the government should not give permits for private parties in the manufacture of fertilizers as they are vital for farmers.
The Communist leader also demanded that the government convene an all-party meeting to find a permanent solution to the establishment of power plants under private ownership.
