The police registered a case against Kadapa Mayor P Ravindranath Reddy, on Friday, in connection with the seizure of 6 lorry loads of fertilizers worth about Rs. 9.72 lakhs.
The police also registered cases against 5 other persons in connection with the fertilizer lorries belonging to Balaji Fertilizers, owned by Kadapa Mayor P Ravindranath Reddy.
The case had triggered off protests by Opposition parties on Wednesday, with demands of a judicial inquiry to unearth instances of illegal transportation of fertilizers to other states being made.
However, the Kadapa Mayor took protection under anticipatory bail, even before the police could arrest him.
