The YSR Congress Party has appealed to party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to call off his indefinite fast, citing that there are many battles to be fought against the "insensitive government" in the days to come.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Jagan's mother and party honorary president Y S Vijayamma, along with senior party leader Konatala Ramakrisha, said, "The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the party met today and decided to request Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to call off his fast in the larger interest of people's welfare."
Concerned over his failing health due to the fast, the PAC drafted an appeal seeking the withdrawal of his fast. Reportedly, his glucose levels have been dripping, and the doctors have advised him to take intravenous fluids. In view of this, Jagan has been requested to call off his fast, which has been on for the past 6 days.
Jagan's mother, Vijayamma, said, "As his health was deteriorating, a decision was taken, considering there are future battles to fight. Jagan was shifted to Osmania Hospital last night, and we had no information regarding this. When we reached the spot after getting the news through media, we were denied permission to meet him."
She added, "For more than an hour, we had to be persistent. It was after our MLAs threatened to sit on a dharna that we (Vijayamma and Jagan's wife Bharathi) were allowed to see him. Our meeting lasted only for 15 minutes, out of which we had two interruptions."
The MP, who launched the fast in jail on Sunday, was shifted to hospital around midnight amid tight security. Police used batons to deal with Jagan's supporters, who had gathered in large numbers and wanted to enter the hospital.
"The next step is to undertake the indefinite fast," Konatala Ramakrishna said, adding that the party hopes that Y S Jaganmohan Reddy withdraws his fast. (INN)
