YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy said today that the government had no right to take away the assigned lands from the farmers, and that his Party would support all the farmers who had lost their lands in the pooling for the Andhra Pradesh capital region, in fighting the injustice in court.
Reddy visited Uddandarayunipalem of the Thullur mandal in the capital region and held discussions with the farmers about the forcible acquisition of assigned lands by the government. Scores of farmers complained to Jagan that they were not willing to give the lands as they had been enjoying them for three generations, but the government was threatening them with serious consequences if they did not part with their lands, warning them that the lands would be taken even without their consent, and free of cost.
The farmers also informed him that assigned lands which were allotted to backward communities were also being taken back. The government was not even leaving the cremation grounds, they alleged.
One farmer said that he was taken to a police station and tortured for three days.
Reacting to these complaints, Reddy said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu himself was behind all the atrocities being committed by the officials, and that an end would come to the government sooner rather than later.
He also assured the farmers that his Party would always support the farmers who were deprived of their lands, and fight in the courts on their behalf.
