The YSR Congress Party has decided to stage dharnas against the forcible acquisition of farm lands by the AP government for Amaravathi, the new capital for Andhra Pradesh.
YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy will sit on a dharna on August 26 under the CRDA limits, said party leader Parthsarthy.
"Our party is not against the development of the new capital city. But farmers' lands should not be taken forcibly," he said.
Condemning the policy of the TDP government to acquire multi-crop farm lands forcibly, the YSRCP leader said that so far 33,000 acres of land had been acquired by the Chandrababu Naidu government.
Though there was government land admeasuring about 30,000 to 35,000 acres available, the AP government wanted to acquire another 3,000 acres of land from farmers, he alleged.
Describing Nara Chandrababu Naidu as "anti-poor" and "anti-farmer", Parthasarthy demanded that the Centre and the Governor intervene in this regard.
