YSR Congress Demands Debate On New AP Capital

Jagan said that his Party was not against any place, but that it would oppose any unilateral decision on the capital.
Hyderabad | 3rd September 2014
The Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday witnessed a heated debate over the issue of the new capital of the residuary State.

As soon as the House met at 9am on Wednesday, the YSR Congress Party moved an adjournment motion seeking a discussion on the new capital.

The YSRCP alleged that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had created confusion by making contradictory statements on the location of the new capital. The opposition members surrounded the Speaker's podium seeking a debate on the issue.

Speaking on the issue, YSRCP president and Leader of the Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy said that he had no objection to the capital being set up anywhere including in Krishna or Guntur. However, he said that the issue should be debated threadbare in the House before any official announcement was made.

"After Chandrababu makes a statement, what is there to discuss? The decision should be taken after the debate," Jagan said.

Speaking to media persons after the adjournment of the House, Jagan said that his Party was not against any place. But it would oppose any unilateral decision on the capital.

Chandrababu Naidu is expected to announce the new capital's location in the Assembly on Thursday. The TDP government is also planning to name the new capital after TDP founder late N T Rama Rao. (INN)
