Tension prevailed for some time when Manakonduru MLA Rasamayi Balakishan's convoy was attacked by some youth at Gundlapalli village in Ganneruaram mandal of Karimnagar district on Sunday.
According to the reports, a protest program was organised by some youth organizations on the Rajiv Rahadari at Gundlapalli village demanding the resignation of Balakrishna as MLA.
The TRS MLA is said to have made several promises, including a double road and some other schemes, to the local people, and to have failed to fulfil those promises, resulting in the protest.
Upon learning of the protest, District Congress president Kavvampalli Satyanarayana also came to the spot and joined it.
When the protest was underway on the highway, the agitators spotted the convoy of Balakrishna, who was crossing the agitation point after attending a program in Begumpet village of Bejjanki mandal, and stopped him.
Even though the MLA assured the protestors that all promises would be fulfilled soon, the agitated youth suddenly attacked his car. The alert police resorted to a lathi charge and dispersed the youth.
Caught unawares by the sudden attack, Balakishan immediately fled the scene.
Some protestors had minor injuries and were sent to the hospital.
It is not clear if the youths belonged to any particular party or group.
