In a major setback to the ruling party, former minister and ex-MLC Y S Vivekananda Reddy, on Wednesday, announced his resignation from the Congress' primary membership, in protest against the "targeting" of his brother and former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
Talking to media persons, Vivekananda Reddy said that he was resigning from the Congress as the party has failed to rebut allegations against his late brother YSR, who, he said, brought the party to power twice.
"There is no need for me to continue in the Congress if Rajasekhara Reddy is called a thief," he said.
Vivekananda alleged that the Congress was purposely trying to bring down YSR's name and fame, and that he was unable to digest the criticism against YSR.
On his future plans, he said that he would announce his course of action after discussing it with his supporters and constituency leaders.
Earlier, Vivekananda convened a meeting with his supporters, and discussed plans of joining the YSR Congress. (INN)
