Hyderabad | 29th November 2010
Kadapa MP and son of former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, on Monday resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party and from his Lok Sabha seat. Along with Jagan, his mother Y S Vijayalaxmi, MLA from Pulivendula in Kadapa district, also resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party and from her MLA seat.

In a 5-page letter addressed to the Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, Jagan listed out various allegations and events that led to his resignation.

Among others, he said that there was a conspiracy to divide his family and single him out for his 'Odarpu Yatra', which he said had started with a good intention. He also stated that a deliberate and well-thought-out conspiracy was hatched to show YSR in poor light, with the tacit approval of the party high command.

Jagan had also said he wanted to remind Sonia Gandhi that he had sought an appointment to meet her but was kept waiting for a month, whereas others were granted an audience within 24 hours. He added that even after explaining the reasons behind taking out the Odarpu Yatra to the Congress president in person, the antagonism did not end, and that there was no improvement in the situation.

The Kadapa MP justified the adverse TV program which was broadcast on Sakshi TV, by saying that even YSR himself had publicly stated that the media house would not be a mouthpiece of the Congress party and would be independent.

He stated that even while other media houses had projected analyses seen detrimental to the Congress party like Sakshi, his television channel was specifically targeted by the Congress leadership.

The young leader also stated his apprehension that his father's legacy would be hijacked by others in the party. The circumstance, he stated in his letter, had hurt him to the extent that he had no other option than to resign.

He, however, asked his followers who support him in the state not to resign from their Assembly seats.

Sources said that Jagan would announce his future course of action on Wednesday in the capital after paying tributes to his father at YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya.
