A former MLA from Vijayawada city, Jaleel Khan, said on Thursday that most of the Muslims in the state were supporters of former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
Talking to media persons, the former MLA said that the Muslim community had confidence in Jaganmohan Reddy as he would also look after their welfare if he came to power.
Reminding that former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's schemes had benefitted the Muslim community, Jaleel Khan recalled that 2 major schemes - 4% reservation in seats in all educational institutions and fee reimbursement for poor students - introduced by him had benefited a lot of students from the economically backward sections in the community.
The state government, during YSR reign, had constructed Shadi Khanas for performing mass marriage functions at places where the Muslim population was more, he added.
He said that the Muslim community had come close to YSR due to his pro-welfare schemes, and had now turned its emotional attachment towards his son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
