YSR Congress Party President and former Chief Minister YSR's son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today began his 2-day fast in Guntur to express his solidarity with farmers who are unable to get the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their paddy grains.
The crowds were in full attendance, as is a regular sight at events launched by influential politicians, and Jagan's party is understandably riding the wave of his blockbuster success in the recently held Kadapa by-elections. However, the point at issue is the number of MLAs who are openly supporting Jagan now.
In Jagan's
last fast in the region, at Vijayawada, 31 MLAs were present at the venue, but today, there were only 8 MLAs present.
Konda Surekha, Sucharita and Ramakrishna Reddy were some of the MLAs who attended the fast today, and MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and 4 MLCs were also around.
Meanwhile, Jagan loyalists in Congress are unsure of how beneficial it is to support the MP at this point in time. What remains to be seen is how many of them are persuaded to attend the remainder of Jagan's fast tomorrow.
