After B P Acharya, another senior IAS officer is likely to come under the tentacles of the Central Bureau Of Investiation (CBI), which is currently probing the case of alleged amassment of illegal wealth by Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy.
According to sources, the CBI is now probing the role played by the State Information And Public Relations Department (I&PR) in showering undue favours to Jagan.
Following orders of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the then I&PR Commissioner released advertisements worth crores of rupees to 3 newspapers.
As per the rules, advertisements must be released only to newspapers which have an RNI number and are registered. However, the IAS official released crores of rupees to the newspapers, in violation of the RNI rules.
Sources say that the CBI has now probing the involvement of officials in the entire misappropriation.
As per details procured under the Right To Information Act (RTI), the then Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy ordered the I&PR Department to consider the case of a particular newspaper for enhancing the advertisement tariff and then releasing the advertisements.
Funds were released to the newspapers, following the order. One particular newspaper received 51 advertisements worth more than Rs. 2 crore in 2 years, and another got Rs. 5 crore for the same ads.
Sources say that the CBI is keen to bring out more skeletons out of the I&PR department's cupboard. (INN)
