A housewife in a tribal thanda was tied to a tree by her alcoholic husband, doused in kerosene and set ablaze.
She breathed her last in a hospital.
The incident occurred in Toorpu thanda under Parvathagiri mandal of Warangal Rural district on Saturday night.
Hearing the screams of the woman, the neighbours rushed to the spot and shifted her to the MGM Hospital, but she did not survive the incident and the serious burns.
According to the neighbours, Banothu Balu was an alcoholic and mercilessly thrashed his wife Rajitha every day, despite repeated advice from family and community elders and from neighbours.
On Saturday night too Balu returned home fully drunk and thrashed Rajitha. However, not satisfied with the physical torture this time, Balu tied Rajitha to a tree at midnight, poured kerosene on her, set her ablaze and fled the scene. On hearing her screams for help, the neighbours rushed to the spot and shifted badly burnt housewife to the MGM Hospital where she succumbed to injuries in the early morning.
The local police registered a case and have started a hunt for the accused.
