Mystery surrounds the death of a woman Home Guard who was burnt to death on the spot, while her mother and a sub-inspector of police were injured in a fire incident, at Alwal in Hyderabad late on Monday night.
According to sources, the Home Guard, identified as Sruthi, poured kerosene on herself and lit herself. When contacted, police officials claimed that her death was an accident. She was attached to Bolarum police station.
Police sources say that the Home Guard was mentally disturbed due to the pressures of her job. The sub-inspector has been identified as Kameshwar Rao.
Doubts are being raised over the presence of the sub-inspector at the residence of the Home Guard. Sources, on condition of anonymity, claim that Kameshwar Rao had gone to meet Shruti at her residence.
The sub-inspector and the victim's mother were injured when they tried to save Shruti from the fire. They were shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Musheerabad for treatment.
Higher-ups in the police department remain tight-lipped about the incident.
A CLUES team has been pressed into service at the scene, while a case has been registered.
