Telangana Congress leaders have stepped in to calm former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, who had been seeking the party ticket for the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency by-election.
After the party high command decided to nominate Naveen Yadav as its candidate, Anjan Kumar Yadav had openly expressed his dissatisfaction and planned to stage a protest.
Recognizing that the senior leader's dissent could affect Naveen Yadav's prospects, party officials reportedly moved quickly to appease him. Senior leaders, including AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, AICC in-charge Viswanathan, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Labour Minister Vivek Venkatswamy, visited the former MP at his Hyderabad residence today.
They managed to reassure Anjan Kumar that the party would honour his seniority and utilise his contributions in future initiatives.
Speaking to the media later, Prabhakar said that the Congress had selected its candidate only after thorough consultations with all stakeholders. He added that while Anjan Kumar Yadav had been expected to contest the Jubilee Hills seat, the party's higher authorities, considering the present scenario, chose another candidate.
"We have discussed Anjan Kumar's future. He is a prominent Congress leader, having served twice as working president and twice as a Member of Parliament. He is key to the party's growth in Hyderabad, and under his leadership we are moving forward to strengthen the party in the city. The decision reflects the current circumstances," Prabhakar said.
